FAQ
I’ve never had a massage, what can I expect?
Each massage is unique to every client based on their needs. Upon arrival, new clients will be asked to fill out a quick form to specify their areas of discomfort and focus. If it is your first time, please arrive at least 5 minutes early, so filling out your form doesn't carry over into your session time. Some clients are looking for only relaxation while others are looking for deep tissue; the decision will depend on the goals of the session and will be thoroughly discussed with the therapist.
Industry standard is that the total time for massage includes 'on and off the table' time. Most places allot an extra 10-15 minutes to accomodate this, but R&R allots only 5 minutes, allowing for more on-the-table time (one hour is fifty-five minutes of massage; ninety minutes is eighty-five minutes of massage).
Where is the building? Where do I park?
R&R Massage of McDonough is located behind 103 Jonesboro Road in McDonough, GA. We are in the building behind the main building, Suite 98 (right side). Our official address is 98 James Lee Ct.
Parking spaces are available both directly in front of, and along the side of, the business.
What do I do when I've arrived?
The greeting sign outside will indicate how to announce your arrival. The front door will be unlocked approximately 10 minutes prior to your appointment time. If the lobby is open, please wait there quietly until your massage therapist is ready. If not, DO NOT KNOCK; please announce your arrival via text. If you've arrived, but don't have an appointment, the sign will indicate that R&R Massage is by appointment only and give instructions on how a session can easily be booked.

How often should I receive a massage?
Every body is different. Depending on your daily habits and stress levels, we may start out more frequently and be able to space them apart as the we see improvement with the sessions. Working with the therapist on homework like stretching, strengthening, and better postural habits will help each session have a bigger impact.
What’s the difference between relaxation and therapeutic deep tissue?
Relaxation is a low-pressure Swedish massage, meaning that the treatment will focus on calming and improving circulation for the client. It is not uncommon for clients to fall asleep during this. Therapeutic deep tissue may involve moving the client’s limbs to access certain muscles needing attention, and the client may experience some discomfort as trigger points are pressed to be released. It is not unusual to be sore the next day after deep-tissue massage, but the session should never be too painful that the client cannot relax their muscles. Communication is important especially during a deep-tissue massage to ensure that the best treatment occurs.
Some clients choose to have a mixture of deep-tissue and relaxation. Deep tissue techniques are used for the focus areas, while more relaxing techniques are used for the less tense areas.
What type of oil/lotion is used?
At this location, the therapist will use almond oil for most massages. CBD, arnica, and essential oil for scents are optional as upgrades at an additional charge. Almond oil does not affect peanut allergies. Communicate with your therapist if you would prefer a different type of oil or lotion for the session.
What is Myofascial Release (MFR) massage?
The myofascia is as if the body were in a skin suit: a large muscle that encompasses the whole body. MFR moves slowly and gently to pull at those tight areas and grant relief to the client without the same intensity of deep pressure. This technique uses minimum lotion/oil and can be a little uncomfortable for someone with extremely tight myofascia.
What is trigger point therapy?
Trigger point therapy focuses on the trigger points, sometimes referred to as “knots,” found in the muscle and fascia of the body. These points are given varying degrees of pressure in order to release. Trigger point therapy may be incorporated in deep-tissue massage, as it may cause some amount of discomfort and then relief as the trigger points release.
What is neuromuscular therapy (NMT)?
Neuromuscular Therapy massages deep into the muscles and helps alleviate nerve pain and muscle tension. Trigger points (see question regarding trigger points) and nerve entrapments are treated to give the client relief. The client should never be in extreme pain when these connections and points are addressed; communication is key.
How does prenatal massage differ from regular massage?
Prenatal massage can begin after the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, given that the expectant mother does not have complications. Massage is done in a side position for access to the back, so that the mother does not have to lay on her stomach. Additional pillows for comfort will be added to the massage table to prop the expectant mother at an incline. Specific needs will be discussed prior to your appointment.
What is the late arrival policy?
Things happen, and late arrivals are anticipated. Get here when you can, but the appointment's end time will remain unchanged and prices will not be prorated for tardiness.
If your appointment is for 30 minutes, please aim to arrive early, especially if it's your first time. Unlike 60-minute and 90-minute sessions, if you are 10 or even 5 minutes late for a 30-minute session, it can greatly diminish the efficacy of your massage. We encourage most tardy 30-minute sessions to reschedule, despite it being a last-minute cancelation. See Cancelation Policy for more information.
What is the cancelation policy?
We expect to be notified of any cancelations at least 24 hours before the scheduled time either by text message or phone call to (470) 389-4208, or by canceling on our online scheduling portal, only. Sending an email, or sending a text message to our automated scheduling system's number, are not effective methods of communication, as neither are as frequently monitored.
A cancelation becomes a last-minute cancelation when it occurs within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment time. If at any time, a client’s absences (last-minute cancelations, no-shows) become delinquent to a point of excess, a deposit may be required to book the next session. (See Deposit Policy for more information.) R&R does not differentiate between last-minute cancelations and last-minute rescheduling.
Arriving for your appointment (late or on-time), then requesting a shorter duration is also considered a last-minute cancelation. Any modifications to your session need to be addressed at least 24 hours before the appointment begins.
What is the deposit policy?
There are four reasons that a deposit would be required to secure a session time: first, if the requested time falls on Valentines Day (or weekend), or Mother's Day (or weekend); second, when a first-time customer schedules an appointment or appointments valued more than $135, or any customer schedules an appointment or appointments valued over $270; third, to book a second session after last-minute canceling or no-showing the very first session; fourth, when there is a pattern of last-minute cancelations or no-shows, or if the client has a habit of frequently booking and canceling with no or few actual appointments completed. Deposits are approximately 50% of the value of the appointment being secured, but may be increased to 100% if delinquincies continue.
If a deposit is required to confirm your appointment, we expect that deposit payment ASAP to reserve the time. An appointment may be declined or canceled if the deposit requirement is not met soon after it is requested. Deposits are fully refundable only when the appointment (that the deposit is securing) is canceled more than 24 hours before the scheduled time. In the event of a last-minute cancelation or a no-show where a deposit was required to reserve the time, the deposit is deemed non-refundable.
In the event that someone who has placed a deposit to secure a session time arrives and requests a shorter session duration, it is treated the same as a last-minute cancelation. The deposit is forfeit, and the second half of the session time received must be paid. (e.g. A client's deposit was $39 to secure an hour. Client arrives and requests a half-hour, instead. Client forfeits their deposit, and pays the second half ($22.50) for remainder of the half-hour.) See Cancelation Policy for more information. Gift cards cannot be used for deposits.
Please text any questions about cancelation or deposit policy to (470) 389-4208.
